Kvernufoss Waterfall

What Makes Kvernufoss Waterfall in Iceland Unique?

Tucked away in South Iceland, near the Skogar Cultural Heritage Museum, the Kvernufoss waterfall stands as a serene, unique waterfall. Unlike the bustling Skógafoss, Kvernufoss Iceland is a peaceful retreat, often overlooked by travel guides, offering a quieter experience.

Set in the Kvernugil gorge, surrounded by mossy black volcanic cliffs, it cascades 98 feet (30 meters) down, creating a stunning spectacle. A favorite among photographers, Kvernufoss allows for rare, people-free shots.

It's one of the few waterfalls in Iceland where you can walk behind the falls, but be cautious as the rocks can be slippery. This hidden waterfall near Skógafoss is a true hidden gem, offering unique perspectives and tranquil beauty.

How Do Get To Kvernufoss?

The trail to get to Kvernufoss is a manageable 0.9 miles (1.4 km) there and back, classified as easy and taking about an hour to complete. Although there aren't signs directly pointing to Kvernufoss, the trail from the parking lot is straightforward.
