Sundhöll was the first pool built in Reykjavik and is located just a short distance from Laugavegur, the city’s main street. This charming pool wasn’t completed until 1937 due to a lack of funds, even though construction began in 1929. The building houses an indoor pool, a children’s pool, and some outdoor hot tubs. It’s worth noting that the walls are made of glass, making the interior of the complex unique. It was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, who also designed other significant buildings such as the Hallgrímskirkja Church and the University of Iceland.
What Are the General Rules of Icelandic Pools?
Let’s take a look at the requirements you need to meet to enter the pools without any hassle:

Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a person aged 15 or older who knows how to swim. A maximum of 2 children per guardian is allowed.

Visitors who cannot swim must wear armbands or a floatation device.

Primary school children must use the appropriate locker room for their gender.

It is mandatory to shower without a swimsuit before entering the pool. Swimsuits must be clean.

Diving is not allowed in shallow areas or in the children's pool.

Using diving equipment or inflatable toys in the pool is not allowed without permission from the lifeguard.

The use of tobacco, alcohol, or other toxic substances is strictly prohibited within the complex. People who do not comply with this rule will be denied entry.

Camera use, including mobile phone cameras, is strictly prohibited in the locker rooms. Violating this rule will be reported to the police.
